Annual Report 2006-07The South Central Connecticut Regional Water Authority has a long history of caring for natural environments. Now after more than 25 years, we are more aware than ever that our operation—how we do business—influences the quality of and commitment to those natural environments. From the preservation of land, to watershed inspections, to providing 55 million gallons of water per day, we are dedicated to being a responsible corporate citizen and leader.
Water is a key element for a prosperous, healthy community. It’s a symbol of our region’s bounty and something that citizens are entitled to. Providing clean water to the homes and businesses that depend upon us every day is both a privilege and a responsibility. Link to this Annual Report.
Annual Report 2005-06We felt it was time to hear from some of the people who deal with us every day – our customers. This 2006 fiscal year annual report opens with some letters from customers that express appreciation for the service we offer each and every day to the Greater New Haven region.
Unlike gas or electric utilities, our service is consumed. Just like food, water requires special protection. People cannot live without water. Providing clean water to the homes and businesses that depend upon us every day is both a privilege and a responsibility.
Fueled by over a century of experience and trust, our mission at the Regional Water Authority is to provide a reliable supply of high-quality water at a reasonable cost for today and future generations while promoting the preservation of watershed land and aquifers. We provide 55 million gallons of water per day to some 400,000 consumers. We own and protect more than 25,000 acres of land. Link to this Annual Report.
Annual Report 2004In the mid-1970s, citizens in more than a dozen towns in our region were confronted with a crisis. The New Haven Water Company, seeking money for capital improvements, was going to sell off thousands of acres of open space land it owned in municipalities to pay for water treatment upgrades to meet the new requirements of the Federal Safe Drinking Water Act. Facing transition, the communities in the region pulled together because of a shared philosophy that preservation of land and providing high-quality water are equally important and not mutually exclusive. They sponsored legislation that would establish a regional water district. In 1977, the Connecticut General Assembly protected the interest of people in greater New Haven, by passing legislation that created the South Central Connecticut Regional Water Authority. Annual Report 2003What matters to our customers? In a word: performance. At the Regional Water Authority, our performance matters each and every day. We are responsible for delivering some 55 million gallons of water a day to 400,000 consumers. It matters 24 hours a day, seven days a week. It matters when you twist the faucet knob to fill that coffee pot with water or take that morning shower. It matters when you hear on the radio while driving into work that the local fire department battled a two-alarm house fire just after midnight. And it matters when you need the convenience, in today’s busy environment, of paying your water bill on-line after the kids go to bed. We provide an essential service that people in our region cannot live without. Link to this Annual Report.
