Dear Customer:
Welcome to the South Central Connecticut Regional Water Authority. We completed the merger with Birmingham Utilities on January 16. Today, we are your water company. You can depend upon us 24 hours a day, seven days a week for all your water needs.
Through our two interconnections located in Woodbridge and Orange, we have been able to provide water to your community for the past 20 years. These sources, combined with well water from the aquifers along the Housatonic River, meet your daily water demands. We will continue to supply water to you in this manner.
Our customers come first. We take great pride in providing the best service possible utilizing a talented team of professionals and the most advanced technology available. Each year, we make investments in our distribution system that ensure our ability to supply reliable water that meets all state and federal drinking water standards.
We are a nonprofit public corporation. We own more than 26,000 acres of land and provide a wide array of recreational opportunities and water-related services. Through our Whitney Water Center, we provide hands-on water science programs to some 16,000 students annually.
On average, we provide 55 million gallons of water a day to a population of almost 400,000 consumers in the region. Historically we have provided water and other services in all or portions of Bethany, Branford, Cheshire, East Haven, Hamden, Milford, New Haven, North Branford, North Haven, Orange, West Haven and Woodbridge. As a result of the merger, we now provide water and other services in Ansonia, Derby, and a small portion of Seymour. We also now own land in Beacon Falls, which, along with Guilford, Madison, Killingworth and Prospect, is included in the Regional Water District.
We are governed by both a five-person Authority and a 21-person Representative Policy Board.
The 21 members come from the 20 municipalities in our District plus one appointed by the Governor. In each municipality, the mayor or first selectman nominates a representative who is then confirmed by the municipality’s chief legislative body. Our understanding is that this process will begin shortly in Ansonia, Derby, Seymour and Beacon Falls.
You may have already received your water bill from Birmingham Utilities. We remind you to pay that bill when it’s due in the normal manner. Payments can still be made at either the 230 Beaver Street office in Ansonia or at Seccombe’s at 171 Main Street in Ansonia. Our plan is to keep the Beaver Street office open until March. We will keep you up to date as these plans become firmer. During normal business hours, while the Beaver Street office is open, you will be able to reach us at 735-1888. After hours, or for emergencies, please call 562-4020.
Soon you will be receiving our “Welcome to the RWA Community” brochure that will give you additional customer information about our water service.
Sincerely,
