Common Ground High School Students Taking Part In Environmental Careers Summer Camp For Immediate Release June 24, 2014

Ten students from Common Ground High School in New Haven will be learning about environmental careers in the water industry this week while attending the third annual environmental careers summer camp hosted by the South Central Connecticut Regional Water Authority (SCCRWA).

Students will spend the week interacting with SCCRWA employees and observing the work they do. They will be introduced to careers including watershed inspector, environmental analyst, treatment plant operator, water quality analyst and laboratory analyst. A typical day will include classroom presentations, hands-on activities and a field trip. There will be a graduation ceremony on Friday afternoon where students will make presentations about what they have learned during the week to the audience of invited guests. The environmental careers summer camp is based at the Authority’s education center, the Whitney Water Center, 945 Whitney Avenue in Hamden.

This program will expand the students’ career horizons, and the students will learn about environmental science concepts and related practical applications that apply to the protection and production of public drinking water.

The environmental careers summer camp is supported by the South Central Connecticut Regional Water Authority and The Watershed Fund, a non-profit organization whose mission is to protect water quality throughout the region.
