New Haven, Conn. (Oct. 9, 2015) – Larry Bingaman, president and CEO of South Central Connecticut Regional Water Authority (RWA), invites the greater New Haven community to celebrate RWA Day on Mon., Oct. 19th in honor of the company’s recent Utility of the Year Award presented by New England Water Works Association’s (NEWWA). Beginning at noon on the New Haven Green, community members can take the “Value of Water Pledge” that demonstrates a commitment to drinking tap water. Mayor Toni Harp will present a proclamation and offer her remarks at 2:30 p.m., with the event ending at 3 p.m.
RWA earned the Utility of the Year Award as recognition of its conscious business practices and significant contributions to the water system infrastructure, customer service, staff training and operations, all of which further protect the wellbeing of the community while promoting the preservation of watershed land and aquifers. RWA Day celebrates this accolade and RWA’s focus on being the best in class as a provider of an abundant and reliable supply of water, which is essential to a healthy, thriving and economically vibrant community.
“RWA Day celebrates water’s life force and its contribution to public health protection, fire protection, support for the economy and maintenance of the overall quality of life we enjoy,” Bingaman said. “On RWA Day and every day, it is our hope that the New Haven region will honor the value of water by leveraging its life-sustaining properties and recognizing those critical systems that allow RWA to provide high quality water and services at a reasonable cost.”
The first 500 community members to sign the pledge will receive a free RWA water bottle. In addition, RWA Day will feature information highlighting RWA’s educational and recreational programs.
