Water Treatment Operator Apply Now

The Regional Water Authority is looking for an experienced Water Treatment Operator. The successful candidate will perform the duties required for the safe and efficient operation and maintenance of treatment facilities as assigned by the Team Lead. Examples of duties include (but not limited to): preventive and corrective maintenance to plant equipment, mixing of chemical solutions, lab analysis, operation of automated control systems, and general plant cleaning.

Applicant must be able to speak, read and write English, possess excellent mathematical and computer skills and be in good physical condition; must be mechanically inclined and will be required to take qualifying tests.  Applicant must have a CTDPH Class IV WTP Operators Certificate or a Class IV Operator in Training Certificate, and must have a valid Connecticut driver's license; experience with DAF a plus.   Applicant must be able to wear a respirator.  This is a bargaining unit position.

Facilities Services Team Lead Apply Now

The Regional Water Authority (RWA) is seeking a Facilities Services Team Lead. This person is responsible for the coordination and organization of activities related to the overall operation and maintenance of the organization’s buildings, building support systems and related internal office services. Facilities encompass supply, treatment, distribution, storage and administrative operations.

The successful candidate will supervise the overall operation and maintenance of all organization buildings and building support systems, including electrical power distribution, lighting, heating, air conditioning, ventilation, fire control and suppression systems, roof management, utilities, housekeeping, fencing, parking, waste management, signage, domestic plumbing, and other miscellaneous facility management services; provide support in the area of facilities planning, design, construction, alteration, maintenance and repair; under the supervision of the Director of Distribution and Field Operations, supervise the Utility Technician assigned to our headquarters building at 90 Sargent Drive; plan and coordinate the activities of outsourced service contractors and their staff; regularly interact with contractors and their employees in the performance and inspection of contractual services including custodial services, flooring, indoor plants, elevators, alarm systems, insect and rodent extermination and prevention, and cafeteria and vending functions; coordinate activities with other departments/divisions on facilities-related projects; supervise the operation of a one-call clearinghouse for facilities service requests associated with buildings under their control; maintain a variety of work history and other files; provide reports as required; coordinate maintenance programs, tasks, contracts, specifications, history and databases for associated building maintenance; establish and ensure safe work practices pursuant to policy and regulations; provide assistance in the development and administration of contracts and specifications for a wide variety of outsourced projects and services; serve on cross-sectional RWA committees as deemed appropriate; respond to call-outs for resolution of problems and emergencies; perform duties and accomplish other tasks as assigned by the Director of Distribution and Field Operations; other duties as necessary to accomplish the mission, vision and values of the RWA.

The preferred candidate will possess the following minimum competencies:  5 years of progressive experience in the overall operation and maintenance of water supply, treatment and distribution facilities; considerable technical, communication, interpersonal and organizational skills; the ability to multi-task and prioritize; the ability to plan, organize, schedule, assign and review maintenance work and projects; strong knowledge of methods, materials, and equipment used in the maintenance of commercial buildings and building systems; 2 years of experience in the operation, maintenance and administration of computerized asset management systems; and the ability to collaborate and be a team player.  A Bachelor’s degree in an appropriate field or equivalent experience; Certified Professional Maintenance Manager (CPMM), Project Management Professional (PMP) is preferred.

  • 5 years of management experience
  • Connecticut Department of Public Health Class III Distribution Systems Operation Certificate preferred
  • Ability to plan, direct, coordinate and administer the operations and maintenance
  • Considerable knowledge and experience in principles and practices of project management
