HazWaste Central

Household hazardous waste comes from everyday products used in the home, garage, yard or garden. HazWaste Central helps area residents in member towns protect water quality by safely disposing of these household wastes. Located at our headquarters at 90 Sargent Drive in New Haven, HazWaste Central is open from 9 a.m. until noon on Saturdays only, May through October.

In addition to regular collections, we are holding satellite collections in several of our member communities. Satellite collections will not accept antifreeze, asbestos, auto batteries, camp stove propane cylinders, fire extinguishers, gas grill propane tanks or waste oil. Satellite collection days are listed below:

  • Milford - September 19, 9AM to Noon; Milford Public Works Yard, 83 Ford Street
  • Meriden - September 26, 9AM to Noon; Meriden Transfer Station, 226 Evansville Avenue (Note: antifreeze and waste oil will be accepted)
  • Madison - October 3, 9AM to Noon; Madison Public Works Yard, 16 Fort Path Road (Note: antifreeze and waste oil will be accepted)

HazWaste Central is free to residents of Bethany, Branford, Cheshire, East Haven, Fairfield, Guilford, Hamden, Madison, Meriden, Milford, New Haven, North Branford, North Haven, Orange, Wallingford, West Haven and Woodbridge.

A visit to HazWaste Central is quick and easy. Participants never have to leave their cars, and the waste is off-loaded by professionals. Co-sponsored by the RWA and the South Central Regional Council of Governments, some of the household wastes that can be dropped off include aerosol cleaners and sprays, antifreeze, oil-based paint and pool chemicals.
