NEW HAVEN, July 8, 2016 - The South Central Connecticut Regional Water Authority (RWA) is asking area residents to be suspicious if someone comes to their door claiming to be from the water company and wanting to enter their home. The Regional Water Authority makes appointments with residents if the company needs to enter a home.
Meter readers still walk from house to house, but they generally do not need to enter a home to get a meter reading. They use a device to take a meter reading from a port on the outside of the home.
All Regional Water Authority personnel carry an employee photo identification card and wear clothing and/or a vest with the Regional Water Authority logo. If the person at your door doesn’t show you an employee identification card and give you time to examine it, do not let them in your home. The customer should also look for a company car or truck with the Regional Water Authority logo parked nearby.
If a customer has doubts about someone showing up at their home, they should immediately call the Authority’s Customer Service Department at 203-562-4020 or the local police department.
