Notice of Public Hearing and Filing of Rates and Other Charges for Water and Related Services

The Representative Policy Board (“RPB”) of the South Central Connecticut Regional Water District (“the District”) will hold a public hearing at 7:00 p.m. on Thursday, September 18, 2014 , at the offices of the South Central Connecticut Regional Water Authority (“the Authority”), 90 Sargent Drive, New Haven, Connecticut, to consider the application of the Authority to establish rates, other charges, and rate schedules for water and related services.

REGIONAL WATER AUTHORITY INVITES PUBLIC TO “TAP INTO NATURE”

Remember being told to go outside and play? That turns out to be great advice. Opie’s World: Tap Into Nature, a feature of the South Central Connecticut Regional Water Authority’s Recreation program, helps children and adults reconnect with the natural world and each other. On Wednesday, August 20, from noon until 4:00 p.m., a team of Authority employees will help visitors young and old with fishing, nature crafts and hands-on activities such as breaking open rocks to find the treasures inside and learning how clouds help predict weather at this free program. This family event will take place at the Maltby Lakes Recreation Area on the westbound side of Route 34 at the West Haven/Orange town line.

Discoloration Of Water In The Lake Saltonstall Service Area Has Cleared

The redirection of water from one source into the Saltonstall water service area because of an electrical malfunction at the Lake Saltonstall Water Treatment Plant led to a discolored water event Tuesday, July 8th and Wednesday, July 9th. By Wednesday afternoon, the discolored water had worked its way eastward from the treatment plant and dissipated. The water now is of the same high-quality that it was prior to the discoloration event.

Discolored Water/Low Pressure UPDATE

Regional Water Authority crews and contractors were able to start up the Lake Saltonstall Water Treatment Plant yesterday evening. The plant had suffered an electrical failure and small fire in one of the pumps that takes water from Lake Saltonstall and brings it into the treatment plant. Water was diverted from other sources in order to supply water for drinking, hygiene and fire-fighting to more than 25,000 people.

RWA & SolarCity Commemorate Major Solar Installation

Representatives of the South Central Connecticut Regional Water Authority (RWA) and SolarCity gathered to celebrate the completion of a large one-megawatt solar array at an RWA facility in Hamden on Friday, April 25, 2014. The ground-mounted solar system includes more than 4,000 solar panels—making it one of the largest in the state. SolarCity installed, financed and will maintain the array for the Regional Water Authority. The RWA will save money by paying less for the solar power than they’re currently paying for utility power—while reducing both pollution and water use.

Doggie Drinking Fountain Dedicated At Union Street Dog Park

A water fountain for our four-legged canine friends was dedicated this weekend at the Union Street Dog Park in New Haven. The South Central Connecticut Regional Water Authority (RWA) partnered with the Friends of Wooster Square Parks (FOWS) to add a doggie drinking fountain to the Union Street Dog Park, a formerly derelict space which is now an oasis for neighborhood residents and their pet partners.

Consumer Alert: Always Ask For A Company ID

The South Central Connecticut Regional Water Authority (RWA) issued a reminder today to consumers to always ask for an employee identification card if someone comes to their door claiming to be from the water company. This reminder is a result two incidents where two men posed as water company employees to attempt to gain access to homes on Cloudland Road and Bowen Road in North Haven on Wednesday, April 23.
